NOTE: This transcript is based on a Polish version of the movie, where a lector is reading the translation. That's why the dialogs are not always identical with the original: sometimes I just couldn't hear / understand actors' words and translated them back from Polish. Furthermore I cannot guarantee that I put the right names to some marginal characters. And sorry for the pics quality -- they are more to show how the movie looked like in general.
The titles of the movie's parts were displayed on the screen.
Many thanks to Squaredancemom from The Farthest Outpost for editing this text.
A desert landscape. A black man in rags walks through it. He has a bag across his shoulder. He stops, looks around and takes a fistful of something that looks like screws and other metal pieces and start to sow them with a wide gesture. He walks away sowing. Now electricity masts can be seen half buried in the dunes.
When his bag is empty the BLACK MAN lays down in the sand looking at the sky, his arms spread wide. Fade out.
The BLACK MAN still lays cross like in the sand. He rises after a while and looks at his "crop" -- TV sets growing in the sand. He takes one and carries it toward the "apartment" that actually is a collection of household devices placed in the middle of the desert. There is a bed and a table with some golf trophies. The BLACK MAN puts the TV set in the way so its screen fills all the frame.
KAREN walks through the sand, only her bare feet can be seen.
Then she puts her shoes on. She enters the "apartment"
and starts to clean up. There are more devices and furniture to
be seen, a lamp, a clothes stand, a table with some dishes on
it, some chairs, a TV set, a computer. There is sand everywhere
and KAREN sweeps it from the furniture. There is also a kitchen
with a sink and two huge refrigerators.
On the horizon there are few, more or less identifiable debris
buried in sand.
KAREN takes a yellow envelope out of the mailbox.
A man (WES) can be seen from behind, walking barefoot, a golf-club at his side. More electricity masts in the dunes in front of him are to be seen.
KAREN starts to dust off the "apartment". WES comes in. Looks at her for a while, she stops cleaning and turns away from him. It is clear they have a problem.
WES: Karen?
She doesn't move.
WES: Karen?... OK, fine you're on top. (louder) Tell me I'm an idiot! Tell: "Wes, do this, do that, wash dishes..."
KAREN: (turning to him with anger) Enough!
WES leaves her alone, goes away from her, leans against the
bed.
Fade into a night and a daybreak showen in fast motion. Clouds
are crossing the dark sky. WES and KAREN still stay turning their
backs to each other. Fade out.
WES approaches KAREN from behind, touches her shoulder, hesitating.
WES: (softly) I love you, Karen. Now, listen, just try to understand... Just try... There is no point in having any. What for? There is nothing left. Just nothing.
KAREN walks away saying nothing, she goes to the telephone and calls MYRNA, her mother.
KAREN: Mom? Hi.... I'm all right. I'm fine.
She looks like she were about to cry.
KAREN: (after a pause) It's awful. So many years now.... He's afraid of make me pregnant. You know how stubborn he is. I can't take it anymore... (starts crying) Ok, I love you too.
She puts the phone down and looks at WES. They look at each other in silence. Fade out.
